Reflections on the Gospel

Reflection
Have you ever felt judged by your family? St. John Paul II noted that the family "is the cradle of life and love" (On the Lay Members of Christ's Faithful, 40). Yet unmet expectations and divergent priorities can cause tension in even the most loving family situations. This is true for us, and it was true for Jesus!

In today's Gospel, Jesus has returned home to Nazareth. A large crowd gathered, and Jesus finds himself facing stiff opposition from his family. This was likely Jesus' large, extended family. The Semitic language has no specific words for extended relatives, so everyone is "brother" or "sister." The entire clan has gotten wind of Jesus' preaching, and they are not amused. "They set out to seize him, for they said, 'He is out of his mind.'" To make matters worse, the religious authorities even accuse Jesus of being possessed by a demon. It's a mess by any standards.

The family's perspective is perhaps understandable. In Jewish culture, teachers and scribes underwent intensive schooling and apprenticeships, none of which Jesus had done. The family knew Jesus the carpenter, not Jesus the rabbi. For them, Jesus' bold preaching threatened the reputation of their family!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
Whether statues or stained glass, the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus can be found in churches all over the world. Jesus looks down, one hand extended out and another pointing to a heart wreathed in thorns and glowing with light.

In the Sacred Heart, we see both the sorrow and the joy of the life of Christ, who became one of us out of love. "Jesus knew and loved us each and all during his life, his agony, and his Passion and gave himself up for each one of us ? He has loved us all with a human heart" (CCC 478). In the Incarnation, God becomes man. Jesus experienced the fullness of humanity, including its sufferings. June 8th is the Feast of the Sacred Heart. We remember all that Jesus endured for us. We also remember why he endured it -- out of love.

Did you know that Blessed Sacrament has no full time lay employees? Our paid staff of four works between 9 and 20 hours a week, which sometimes isn't always easy, but they manage.

The two unpaid volunteers work between 6 and 12 hours a week. This really keeps our payroll expenses low. We are so thankful for them and for the staff. God bless all of them!

Baby Bottle Drive Completed

Baby Bottle
Final call for baby bottles. The check will be sent at the end of the week.

If you still have your bottle, you can drop it off at the parish office or give it to any of the Knights Columbus members. The drive totals will be reported shortly.

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered for the baby bottle drive. Without your time and commitment this would not be possible. We have had a great response so far and many have already returned their donations-thank you so much.

Without your support, foundations like the Fr McGivney Center could not provide their charitable works to struggling mothers who have chosen life and a better future for their children. Thank you for your help in this worthy cause.

Rosary Relay

Rosary Relay
The Saint Peter Church Liturgy Commission invites you to join your prayers with the prayers of millions around the world on Friday June 8, 2018 at 6:30 pm as we participate in World Priest's Annual Global Rosary Relay for the Sanctification of Priests.

The idea for the relay is a simple one. Each of the participating 170 locations in 68 countries prays a particular mystery of the Rosary at an allocated half hour in thanksgiving to God for our priests and to beseech Our Lady for the protection and loving care of all her priestly sons. With the coming of midnight on June 8th, the entire world will be encircled in prayer as we spiritually raise our hearts and voices in gratitude and support for all priests. That through this worldwide communion of prayer they be blessed in their ministry of serving the faithful around the world.

Please come and join us in prayer as we pray for our priests serving in the Aurora Deanery, all our Diocesan priests as well as the newly ordained seminarians and those discerning a vocation to the priesthood. Saint Peter Church is located at 925 Sard Avenue in Aurora. For more information please send an email to sphospitalityteam@gmail.com.

Bill Middleton Memorial Golf Outing

Knights of Columbus Let's Golf
The Knights of Columbus are proud to present the First Annual Bill Middleton Memorial Golf Outing on Saturday, June 23rd at 9:00 am. The event will be held at Valley Green Golf Course in North Aurora.

Bill put together a golf outing for Blessed Sacrament family and friends two years ago that was very successful and a lot of fun. The Knights of Columbus want to remember Bill with an annual outing that is not a fund raiser, but simply a "golf extravaganza" for fellowship, food and fun with our parish family and friends.

The outing will consist of 9 holes of golf and will be in a scramble format with a shotgun start. Following golf, we will have a cookout lunch with hotdogs, burgers, chips, baked beans, potato salad, soda, water and beer.

The price to golf will be $25 per person to walk and $35 per person to ride a cart. The price includes food & drink as well as some nice raffle and contest cash and gift card prizes for closest to the hole, longest putt, lowest team score and highest team score.

The event is limited to 36 golfers so please contact Jeff Pripusich with any questions and to register as soon as possible. Call or text (630) 484-5337 or send Jeff an email: jeff@cjclassics.com

National Family Planning

Natural Family Planning
Couples who choose Natural Family Planning (NFP) find they experience a wide range of benefits that go far beyond physical and health-related advantages. NFP is definitely safe, healthy and green, but it is also at least as effective as contraception options (besides sterilization), and many couples are happily surprised to find that it helps improve their relationship as well. Fertility awareness is also incredibly helpful to those couples who are trying to achieve pregnancy because it easily enables a couple to pinpoint the most fertile time of the cycle.

Visit https://ccli.org/what-is-nfp/benefits/ to learn more!

To take a Couple to Couple League live online or self-paced online NFP course go to www.ccli.org. Classes include about 6 hours of instruction, instructional materials, a digital thermometer and the charting app CycleProGo, and a digital subscription to Family Foundations magazine. Access to a Teaching Couple is available via email or phone for questions, consultation, and chart review.
